In April 2026, I once again had the opportunity to photograph the array of colorful nebulae in the constellations Scorpio and Libra in Rooisand using a 50mm lens. A palette of colors created by stars, gas, and dust. Red emission nebulae, formed when hydrogen is excited by the ultraviolet light of the stars. Dust illuminated by starlight, reflecting it golden-yellow or bluish. And dust that obscures the stars behind it, appearing dark. In the center of the image, the nebulae surrounding the star Antares glow. To the left of it is the blue Horsehead Nebula. In between, veils of dark dust clouds appear again and again. This section of the sky measures approximately 22° x 17° and was captured as a mosaic of two images.
A Magic of Colors in Scorpio and Libra
