My image shows a small section of the Dark Wolf Nebula. This nebula, in turn, is part of the large molecular cloud in the constellation Lupus (the Wolf), about 500 times the size of our full moon and only about 500 light-years away from us. It is an extremely dense dust cloud, a cold accumulation of gas and cosmic dust. It facilitates the formation of chemical molecules. As a result, it primarily gives rise to low-mass stars, similar to our Sun. These young protostars are buried deep within the dust and are invisible to the human eye. They are only made visible by the infrared telescopes of modern astronomy.
