The Wolf Nebula, also known as the Fenrir Nebula (SL17), is a fascinating dark nebula in the constellation Scorpio, located just about 6,200 light-years away. It is a striking accumulation of cosmic dust that blocks the light of thousands of stars behind it, creating a pitch-black, wolf-like shape. The Dark Wolf lies in the middle of a huge emission nebula (RCW 113 / Gum 55), which glows particularly intensely in red light due to radiation from hydrogen and sulfur. To better distinguish these two elements, I rendered the hydrogen in red and the sulfur in yellow. Fragments of oxygen clouds are visible in blue. I captured the image for 8 hours without filters, but additionally exposed hydrogen for 10 hours, oxygen for 26 hours, and sulfur for 16 hours using narrowband filters.
