This cirrus cloud-like nebula is the last visible remnant of a star that exploded in the Milky Way about 8,000 years ago. For people living at that time the expanding cloud was as bright as a crescent moon and visible for several weeks. The Veil Nebula is ideal for studying the physics of supernova remnants because of its unobscured location in our galaxy, its relative closeness, and its large size. The Veil Nebula is located in the constellation Cygnus. Although it is also high in our night sky, I took the two detailed photos in Namibia where the sky is more favourable.
